Import Your Blog Export in WordPress
Video tutorial:
Prerequisites
- You need to have a WordPress site set up and accessible to import your blog posts into.
- You need to have your Blog Porter export file downloaded. If you don't have it yet, you need to export it first.
Step 1: Install the WordPress importer plugin
- Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard
- In the Sidebar navigate to Tools → Import
- Click "Install Now" on the option "WordPress"
- Wait for the notification "Importer installed successfully."
- In the Sidebar navigate to Plugins and click on "Activate" on the plugin "WordPress Importer"
Step 2: Access the Import Tool
- In your WordPress dashboard, go to Tools → Import
- Click on "Run Importer" below the option "WordPress"
- Click "Choose File" and select your WordPress RSS export file that you downloaded from Blog Porter.
- Click "Upload file and import"
- Select the checkbox "Download and import file attachments" so that featured images are imported.
- If you do not select that checkbox, the images will remain linked to the original source and will not be downloaded into WordPress.
- Click "Submit". Depending on the size of your blog import, this may take a few minutes.
Step 3: Review the uploaded posts and media
- Click "Posts" in the WordPress sidebar to see the posts that were imported.
- Click "Media" in the WordPress sidebar to see the images that were imported.
