Import Your Blog Export in WordPress

Video tutorial:

Prerequisites

  1. You need to have a WordPress site set up and accessible to import your blog posts into.
  2. You need to have your Blog Porter export file downloaded. If you don't have it yet, you need to export it first.

Step 1: Install the WordPress importer plugin

  1. Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard
  2. In the Sidebar navigate to ToolsImport
  3. Click "Install Now" on the option "WordPress"
  4. Wait for the notification "Importer installed successfully."
  5. In the Sidebar navigate to Plugins and click on "Activate" on the plugin "WordPress Importer"

Step 2: Access the Import Tool

  1. In your WordPress dashboard, go to ToolsImport
  2. Click on "Run Importer" below the option "WordPress"
  3. Click "Choose File" and select your WordPress RSS export file that you downloaded from Blog Porter.
  4. Click "Upload file and import"
  5. Select the checkbox "Download and import file attachments" so that featured images are imported.
  6. If you do not select that checkbox, the images will remain linked to the original source and will not be downloaded into WordPress.
  7. Click "Submit". Depending on the size of your blog import, this may take a few minutes.

Step 3: Review the uploaded posts and media

  1. Click "Posts" in the WordPress sidebar to see the posts that were imported.
  2. Click "Media" in the WordPress sidebar to see the images that were imported.
