Install the Blog Porter Plugin in WordPress
Blog Porter moves your blog directly into WordPress. Install the free plugin once, then start and manage the migration from your WordPress dashboard.
Before you start
- Use a WordPress site where you are an administrator and can install plugins.
- Make sure your WordPress version is 6.4 or later and PHP is 7.4 or later.
- Keep the blog you are moving publicly accessible, or have your Medium archive ready.
Install the plugin
- Download the Blog Porter plugin. Keep the ZIP file as downloaded.
- In your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin.
- Select the ZIP file, click Install Now, then Activate Plugin.
- Open Blog Porter from the new item in the WordPress admin menu.
Start your migration
Choose the platform you are moving from, provide its public blog URL (or your Medium archive), and let Blog Porter analyse what it finds. Review the posts, complete the one-time checkout, then start the import. Blog Porter creates the posts, taxonomy, and available images directly in WordPress in resumable batches.
There is no XML file to download, upload, or manage during the recommended migration.
If you cannot install plugins
The web export flow is available only as a manual fallback. Use it when you cannot install the Blog Porter plugin on the WordPress site that will receive the migration. Follow the manual XML import guide after creating the export.
